The Taboo video on The Third Sex caught my attention because it was very interesting how in many different parts of the world there are distinct customs and viewpoints in respect with sex, and gender. I grew up without knowing the difference between the terminology of sex and gender. I thought they meant the same thing until I came to college. Now, I understand that sex and gender are completely different. Sex is determined biologically by sexual organs and on the other hand, gender is determined by social factors especially culturally.

When I took a sociology class in 11th grade, my teacher thought it would be a great idea to introduce us to cultural differences through the National Geographic Taboo videos. This is also where I first watched the video on the 3rd sex. When I first saw this video, I was completely confused and flabbergasted. This is why I found the documentary to be so fascinating.
